What If The Tower Fell?
by Big Dog inwhat if the truly unthinkable happened and the tower went down?
perhaps the irs swooped in and claimed fraud and padlocked the headquarters and kingdom hall doors?
or the gb took the money and ran to a nice non-extradition country to live out their years?

Universe Bigger and Older Than We Thought
by Big Dog inastronomers crunch numbers, universe gets bigger
columbus , ohio that intergalactic road trip to triangulum is going to take a little longer than you had planned.. an ohio state university astronomer and his colleagues have determined that the triangulum galaxy, otherwise known as m33, is actually about 15 percent farther away from our galaxy than previously measured.. kris stanek.
this finding implies that the hubble constant, a number that astronomers rely on to calculate a host of factors -- including the size and age of the universe -- could be significantly off the mark as well.. that means that the universe could be 15 percent bigger and 15 percent older than any previous calculations suggested.. the astronomers came to this conclusion after they invented a new method for calculating intergalactic distances, one that is more precise and much simpler than standard methods.

Ten Rules for Dating My Daughter
by Big Dog ini thought this was funny, pretty much sums up my attitude.. ten rules for dating my daughter!.
rule one: if you pull into my driveway and honk you'd better be delivering a package, because you're sure not picking anything up.
rule two: you do not touch my daughter in front of me.

Do Any Atheists Feel This Way?
by Big Dog inthe atheists have done a pretty good job on me, i am just about to cast my lot in with them after all the reading and debating on the issue.
they just seem to have all the answers and appear to hold the intellectual high ground, they do a good job of making one feel like a complete idiot for believing in a god, much less the christian version.
so now that i am almost free of this delusional, magical thinking, religious burden of foolishly believing in a god and that there is anymore to life than what is right here how do i feel?

The Dangers and Morality of Science
by Big Dog inwith all the discussion here about the dangers of religion, its morality issues, and so on i thought it would be interesting to have a discussion (especially given the large population of science oriented folks on this board) where we discuss the same issues with respect to science.
now this is not meant to be some i want to go back to the dark ages thread, but more so that recognition that there are moral, ethical, and hell survival issues with science that need to be addressed.. michael crichton as most know is both a famous author and an extremely bright individual who attended harvard medical school, in his novel jurrassic park he raised some issues with science and its dangers: .
"jurassic park was intended to warn the general public concerning the inherent dangers of biotechnology first of all, but also science in general.

Catholic Church No Longer Swears by Truth of the Bible
by Big Dog inwith all the debate raging here about the accuracy of the bible, i thought this was an interesting article.
i've got to hand it to the catholics, when they want to be they can be a progressive bunch, probably why they have lasted so long.. catholic church no longer swears by truth of the bible.
